Commonly Asked Questions

What equipment do you recommend?

I recommend two pieces of equipment: an immersion blender and a food scale. Here are the ones I use:

Immersion blender: KitchenAid KHB1231OB 2-Speed Hand Blender

  • I use mine regularly for any kind of sauce or even soup. You can use it to revive the sauce’s texture after it has sat in the fridge for a few days, too.
  • If you don’t have an immersion blender, any high speed blender will do.
  • Don’t have a blender? No problem! Sub the garlic with garlic powder and mix with a whisk or fork.

Food scale: OXO Good Grips 5-lb Food Scale

  • This is one of the most used tools in my kitchen! Using a food scale to measure the ingredients is easier and more precise than using measuring cups and spoons.

Where can I find these ingredients?!

Finding a few of these ingredients can be tricky, but you have a few options when it comes to buying miso, tahini, and gochujang paste.

Online!

International market

  • If you are lucky enough to live near an international market that stocks asian or middle eastern groceries, check there first!
  • These stories will often have these cheaper, and possibly fresher, than in a typical grocery store in the US.

Regular or specialty grocery store

  • I can find all of these products in my local grocery store and specialty market.
  • These ingredients can be hard to locate in the store! Here’s where I typically find them:
    • Miso is in the refrigerated section often near other vegan products like tofu.
    • Tahini is a shelf stable product often found alongside other middle eastern foods or right near the peanut butter.
    • Gochujang is shelf stable and often in a small jar or tube alongside other asian sauces or hot sauces.
      • If you can’t find this paste, leave it out and add more Sriracha sauce.

Can I double the recipe?

Yes! Please do.

Can I store the sauce for later?

Sure! Toss it in the fridge and store for up to a week. If it’s looking clumpy upon next use, give it a stir.
